President William Ruto has reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Kenya and the United States as the two nations mark six decades of robust diplomatic relations.
Sharing his reflections on social media, Ruto highlighted the mutual values of democracy, the rule of law, and freedom that have fortified this relationship over the years.
The President noted the significant milestone reached in the past two years, with Kenya being designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally by the United States.
This elevated status underscores the depth of collaboration and trust between the two countries. It also opens avenues for increased cooperation in areas such as trade, security, and development.
As part of the celebrations, President Ruto bid farewell to outgoing US Ambassador Meg Whitman during a meeting at State House in Nairobi.
Ambassador Whitman, who has served as the United States’ representative in Kenya since 2021, was commended for her dedication and tireless efforts in strengthening the Kenya-U.S. partnership.
“She has worked hard for the Kenya-United States partnership. For that, we are immensely grateful,” Ruto said in his statement.
Under Whitman’s tenure, Kenya and the United States have deepened their collaboration in key areas, including counterterrorism, regional stability, and economic growth.
Notable achievements include advancing bilateral trade agreements and fostering people-to-people connections through educational and cultural exchanges.
The designation of Kenya as a Major Non-NATO Ally has been a significant highlight of this partnership.
This status not only enhances Kenya’s security cooperation with the United States but also underscores the country’s role as a key player in promoting peace and stability in East Africa.
Ambassador Whitman, a seasoned diplomat and former corporate executive, has been instrumental in fostering dialogue and collaboration between the two nations.
Her efforts have been pivotal in addressing shared challenges, such as climate change and health crises, while promoting shared prosperity.
As Kenya and the United States look to the future, both nations remain committed to building on this solid foundation of mutual respect and shared goals.
The farewell to Ambassador Whitman marks the end of a chapter, but it also opens new opportunities for the two nations to deepen their ties and achieve even greater milestones.
With 60 years of collaboration as a guiding legacy, the Kenya-U.S. partnership continues to stand as a testament to the power of diplomacy in fostering peace, stability, and development.
