President William Ruto has described the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a champion of democracy, inclusion and national unity, pledging to advance the ideals he fought for throughout his political career.

Speaking to residents of Bondo, Siaya County, Ruto said Raila’s decades-long struggle had helped expand Kenya’s democratic space and strengthened citizens’ participation in national affairs.

The President said Raila’s sacrifices should translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Kenyans through greater opportunities, social justice and equitable development.

Ruto also pledged to pursue a government that serves Kenyans regardless of their region, community or political affiliation.

He said his administration would work to preserve Raila’s contribution to the country by promoting unity and ensuring that all parts of Kenya benefit from development.

“We celebrate Raila Amolo Odinga as the father of our democracy, a champion of inclusion and national unity,” Ruto said.

Ruto said Kenya must build on the gains made through Raila’s long political struggle and ensure that his contribution to the expansion of democratic freedoms is reflected in the country’s future.

He reaffirmed his commitment to building a united and inclusive Kenya, with development opportunities reaching citizens across the country.
