Babu Owino Shifts Focus to Nairobi Ahead of 2027 Election

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino says he will reduce his attendance at Linda Mwananchi rallies as he turns his attention to mobilising support for the movement across Nairobi ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to journalists in Nairobi, Babu said he would still attend some of the rallies but would miss others because of the demands of organising and campaigning across the capital.
He said Nairobi’s size and large electorate required sustained mobilisation efforts, noting that the city has 85 wards and close to 2.5 million registered voters.
“Nairobi has 85 wards. I know it is not easy: the resources it needs, the work it needs. It is a big city, it is the capital city,” he said.
Babu said his priority would now be to strengthen Linda Mwananchi’s presence in Nairobi and campaign for the movement’s presidential candidate, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
“I want to shift my focus to Nairobi and deliver it to Linda Mwananchi. And also mobilising and campaigning for Linda Mwananchi,” he said.
The MP said his reduced participation in some rallies should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from the movement. He described the move as a decision to concentrate his efforts on Nairobi, which he said was an important part of the movement’s plans for the 2027 election.
Babu is also positioning himself for the Nairobi governor’s contest and said he was prepared to seek residents’ support for the county’s top seat.
His mobilisation activities in Nairobi are therefore expected to run alongside his own campaign for governor.
The Embakasi East MP said he would ask Nairobi residents to examine his record in the constituency when considering his suitability to lead the county.

“Some people have been asking, ‘Oh, you vote for Babu in Nairobi, and you will see who he is. Why can’t those people in Embakasi East say who I am?’ Clearly, they’ve seen who I am. They know who I am,” he said.
Babu urged Nairobi residents who were unfamiliar with his work to visit Embakasi East and assess the projects for themselves.
“If you don’t know what I’ve done in the Embakasi East constituency, take a walk. Go to the Embakasi East constituency,” he said.
He further pointed to the constituency’s large population and representation as an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to deliver projects and services.
Among the projects he highlighted was an ongoing road-tarmacking programme, which he presented as part of his record in Embakasi East.
His latest remarks place Nairobi at the centre of his political activities as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
