Kenya Simbas has pulled out from the remaining 2023 Division one fixture of the Mzansi Challenge.

Kenya failed to take part in the remaining fixture of the Currie cup as they experienced financial constraints, although they have qualified after winning their game against Zimbabwe in Nakuru, they will no longer participate in the competition.

“It is with a disappointed heart that I have to inform you that our bright Currie Cup journey in 2023 has to culminate early due to financial constraints and other inevitable factors beyond our control as a team,” Simbas team manager Jimmy Mnene said.

This message was confirmed by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) newly elected director for the 15s squad Engineer Moses Mukabane.

The team has been battling financially for a while as the players who participated in the second edition of the Division one tournament failed to be paid their one month allowances, the team also missed their two opening matches at the start of April and have only won two out of the five games played from April to May.

This call has been made days after Shujaa’s disheartening relegation from the HSBC World Rugby Sevens series after losing to Canada during the play-off finals in London.
