President William Ruto has outlined his commitment to enhancing the nation’s infrastructure, stating that his government will prioritize high-quality projects aimed at boosting trade, regional connectivity, and economic growth.

During a visit to assess the construction progress of the 257-kilometer Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road, a vital part of the LAPSSET (Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport) Corridor, President Ruto highlighted the importance of such infrastructure in driving both local and regional development.

The Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road is a key component of the larger LAPSSET Corridor, designed to connect Kenya with neighboring countries and open up underdeveloped regions for economic activities.

The road will significantly enhance mobility, improve access to essential services, and facilitate trade, positioning Kenya as a strategic economic hub in the East African region.

President Ruto emphasized that infrastructure projects like the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road are pivotal in supporting Kenya’s broader vision of becoming a trade and logistics powerhouse.

“We are focused on ensuring that all corners of the country are well-connected to create an enabling environment for economic prosperity,” Ruto said.

The LAPSSET Corridor, one of the largest and most ambitious infrastructure projects in East Africa, is expected to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s northern regions, stimulate investment, and improve livelihoods by creating jobs and improving access to markets.

The road’s construction is seen as a major step toward bridging the infrastructure gap and promoting inclusive development across the country.

The completion of the Lamu-Ijara-Garissa road is anticipated to accelerate trade within the region, enhance the movement of goods and services, and facilitate cross-border interactions, further cementing Kenya’s position as a critical player in East Africa’s economic landscape.
