The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has formally disassociated itself from the recent activities of activist Oketch Salah, even as he publicly declared his continued loyalty to the party and to its former leader the late Raila Odinga.

The party used an official statement which National Chairperson Gladys Wanga signed to explain that Salah acted by himself because ODM did not give permission for his activities.

Wanga stated that any events remarks or engagements involving Oketch Salah are undertaken in his individual capacity and do not reflect the party’s official position or bind ODM in any way.

The chairperson stated that all recognised party activities and initiatives must be managed through the ODM Party Secretariat which requires leadership approval from Dr Oburu Odinga and other party leaders.

The chairperson also cautioned members and supporters against organising activities in the party’s name without authorisation. She told grassroots leaders and ODM followers to request permission from the party leadership and Secretariat before they would begin any party-related activities. Wanga repeated that ODM will follow its rules to maintain order and organization throughout its work to achieve its goals.

Salah issued his own statement to the public when he defended his actions and stated his commitment to the party. He explained that his work aimed to support ODM because he believes in its values and traditions.

Salah expressed regret through his apology to Wanga because he accidentally caused discomfort to the party leadership. He mentioned that his actions were never meant to disrespect her.

He argued that ODM requires fresh energy and revitalisation because political movements need to keep their base active through ongoing community interaction.

He also answered questions about his funding because he claimed his activities were only paid for through his personal funds. Salah declared that he did not obtain any party funds because he supports the party through personal financing.

Salah revealed to the public that he remained loyal to Raila Odinga because he made a promise to him in India which he pledged to keep.

He explained that he supports ODM because he admires Odinga’s legacy which he believes he must protect and advance for his own responsibility.

Salah maintained that his loyalty to the party stands firm despite ODM positions because he will continue to support ODM through his love and respect for its principles and its former leader.

The exchange brings to light internal strains within ODM regarding how party activities are conducted and how grassroots mobilisation should be handled.

Salah asserted his right to provide support for the party through his personal spending because he wants to help the party while following party rules which require him to stay outside of official party activities.
