The National Assembly Board of Management, led by Clerk Samuel Njoroge, on Friday visited the family of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, to offer condolences following his shocking assassination earlier this week.

MP Ong’ondo Were was fatally shot by unknown assailants on Wednesday night along Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary Roundabout. The incident, which occurred as the lawmaker was driving home from Parliament, has sent shockwaves across the country and triggered widespread calls for justice.

According to eyewitnesses, the MP was ambushed in what appeared to be a carefully orchestrated attack. The assailants escaped the scene immediately after the shooting, and the motive behind the killing remains unknown. Police have since launched a full-scale investigation.

Speaking during the condolence visit, Mr. Njoroge described the late legislator as a devoted public servant who was deeply committed to the development and well-being of his constituents in Kasipul.

“We have lost a dedicated and passionate leader,” Njoroge said. “The National Assembly stands with the family in mourning and demands that the perpetrators of this heinous crime be brought to justice swiftly.”

Senior parliamentary officials accompanied Njoroge to Karen Village, where they assured the bereaved family of the Assembly’s unwavering support throughout this difficult period.

Family members, including Ong’ondo’s children, expressed their gratitude for the show of solidarity and urged the government to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the killing.

Also present during the visit were members of the Funeral Committee, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Minority Whip Hon. Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), and Committee Chair Hon. Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town MP), who also serves on the Speaker’s Panel.

The late MP’s colleagues hailed him as a champion of grassroots development and a vocal advocate for the rights of his constituents.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Monday, May 5, and will be conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor.

The post-mortem is expected to shed light on the nature of the fatal injuries and assist investigators in reconstructing the events of the night he was killed.
