The digital system enables Murang’a County Government to deliver maize seeds and fertiliser to 140000 households by distributing certified seeds and fertiliser through a digital platform.

Through the programme, registered farmers were provided with two kilograms of maize seeds suitable for their specific ecological zones, 10 kilograms of fertiliser, and pesticides to help control fall armyworm.

The digital system allows farmers to pick up their agricultural supplies from specific agro-dealer locations, which solves previous distribution centre problems that led to extended waiting times and excessive crowding and distribution centre confusion.

Dr. Apollo Maina, Murang’a County Chief Officer for Agriculture, explained that the platform permits registered farmers to receive their entitlements without any duplicate claims or outside interference, which helps to enhance record-keeping and service delivery processes.

He added that planting on time during the current rainy season, combined with the use of quality seeds and effective pest control, is expected to increase maize yields, enhance food security, and boost household incomes.

Farmers have praised the digital distribution model for being convenient and efficient, which they consider essential for the county’s agricultural support program modernization efforts.
