Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on government officers to take parliamentary business seriously by preparing well-researched and comprehensive responses for Cabinet Secretaries during question time in Parliament.

Speaking at the launch of the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs Strategic Plan 2023–2027, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of clear and factual answers in enhancing public confidence and demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.

“Failing to provide effective responses in Parliament tarnishes the government’s image and leaves Kenyans feeling unheard,” Mudavadi noted.

He pointed out that many public frustrations arise from a lack of clarity on government actions and policies, urging civil servants to prioritize effective communication.

“If government officers cannot articulate well-structured responses in Parliament, how can they hope to address concerns raised by citizens?” he asked.

The newly launched Strategic Plan is a critical milestone for the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs, aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Executive and Parliament.

The plan outlines a roadmap for improving policy development, legislative processes, and stakeholder engagement over the next five years.

Mudavadi praised the leadership of Principal Secretary Dr. Aurelia Chepkirui Rono for her transformative efforts in revitalizing the department.

“Dr. Rono has turned the department from a one-person operation into a vibrant and forward-looking entity,” Mudavadi said, commending her dedication to improving governance structures.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also urged civil servants involved in policy and legislative formulation to act with patriotism, integrity, and efficiency.

He stressed that professional and ethical conduct is essential in delivering quality services to Kenyans and fostering trust in the government.

This Strategic Plan is the second major initiative under Mudavadi’s portfolio, following the successful launch of the Diaspora Affairs Strategic Plan in September 2024.

These initiatives aim to enhance the effectiveness of government operations and improve service delivery.

The launch of the Strategic Plan was attended by key stakeholders, including members of Parliament, senior government officials, and representatives from the private sector.

The event highlighted the need for strong institutional frameworks to bridge the gap between citizens and their leaders.

Mudavadi’s message underscores the government’s dedication to fostering accountability, transparency, and responsiveness in governance.

With the implementation of the new Strategic Plan, the State Department for Parliamentary Affairs is set to play a pivotal role in strengthening the relationship between the Executive and Parliament, ensuring that the voices of Kenyans are heard and addressed effectively.
