Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and driving digital transformation during a visit to Kakamega town.

Meeting with Western Region Regional Commissioner Samson Macharia and his team, Mudavadi engaged in insightful discussions on the security challenges and technological advancements shaping the region.

The discussions centered on the security landscape in Western Kenya, focusing on crime hotspots and strategies to ensure peace and stability.

The regional security team presented a comprehensive update, highlighting their proactive measures to curb crime during the festive season.

Among the notable successes was the recovery of 150 stolen cows across Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga counties over the past month.

“This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of our security forces to protecting livelihoods and fostering community trust,” Mudavadi remarked.

He praised the team’s commitment to ensuring Kenyans can celebrate Jamhuri Day and the holidays in a peaceful environment.

In addition to security, the visit also underscored the region’s progress in digital transformation.

Mudavadi expressed his admiration for ongoing initiatives to connect schools and hospitals to high-speed internet through fiber and Wi-Fi networks.

These efforts are empowering young people with access to digital skills training and online opportunities, creating a foundation for innovation and economic growth.

“Digital connectivity is a crucial step toward bridging gaps and providing opportunities for all,” Mudavadi said. “These initiatives highlight the region’s forward-thinking approach to leveraging technology for community development.”

Mudavadi was accompanied by a high-profile delegation, including Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy; Principal Secretaries John Tanui (ICT), Prof. Edward Kisiangani (Broadcasting and Telecommunications), and Beatrice Inyangala (Higher Education). Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Manager at Huawei Kenya, was also present, reflecting the importance of partnerships in advancing both security and ICT goals.

The visit aligns with the government’s broader agenda of enhancing security and fostering innovation through its Digital Superhighway initiative. Mudavadi emphasized the interconnectedness of safety and technology in achieving national development goals.

As Kenya navigates the challenges of the 21st century, Mudavadi’s visit to Kakamega underscores the importance of a dual focus on security and digital transformation.

With proactive measures to protect citizens and forward-thinking initiatives to harness technology, the region is paving the way for a prosperous, inclusive future.

“The cornerstone of our sovereignty lies in the peace, stability, and opportunities we create for our people,” Mudavadi concluded.
