Kenya’s Ministry of Defence has announced the recruitment of a new chairperson for the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans, inviting qualified retired senior military officers to apply for the position.

The ministry made the announcement through its verified Meta account on Wednesday, saying the vacancy in the Office of the Chairperson will take effect on Aug. 4, 2026.

According to the notice, the recruitment is being conducted under Sections 10(1), 10(2)(a), 11(a), 11(c) and 12 of the Military Veterans Act, Cap. 199A, Laws of Kenya.

The ministry said eligible applicants must be retired general officers from either the Armed Forces or the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF). Candidates are also required to meet the integrity and leadership standards outlined in Chapter Six of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.

“The Ministry of Defence is pleased to announce to the public an upcoming vacancy in the Office of the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans,” the ministry said in the recruitment notice.

The Advisory Committee on Military Veterans plays a key role in advising the government on policies and programs affecting retired servicemen and women. The committee also provides recommendations on matters relating to the welfare, recognition and support of military veterans.

Applicants have been given 21 days from the date of the notice to submit written applications.

The ministry said applications must include full personal identification details, career particulars and a statement outlining the applicant’s reasons and motivation for seeking the position.

Completed applications should be addressed to the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, and delivered to Ulinzi House on Lenana Road in Nairobi. Physical applications may also be dropped at the Ministry of Defence’s Ulinzi Gate.

The announcement comes as the government continues implementing reforms aimed at strengthening support systems for retired military personnel under the Military Veterans Act.

The legislation established a legal framework for recognizing veterans’ service while promoting their welfare through structured government programs and policy guidance.

The recruitment notice did not indicate when interviews will be conducted or when the successful applicant will be announced after the application period closes.

The Ministry of Defence encouraged all eligible retired officers who meet the stated qualifications to submit their applications before the deadline.
