Justice Reuben Nyakundi of the Eldoret High Court
A lobby group in Eldoret has written an open letter to Chief Justice Martha Koome, expressing concerns over the professional conduct of Justice Reuben Nyakundi, the presiding judge of the Eldoret High Court. The letter, drafted on June 12 and received by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary on June 13, follows a similar complaint by Patrick T. Cherono, a litigant in Eldoret, whose three-page letter was received by the Chief Registrar on June 7.
The letter, seen by Huzmedia, outlines several complaints against Justice Nyakundi, including the issuance of ambiguous court rulings and perceived bias, particularly in succession matters. The lobby group states that more than ten families have requested the judge to recuse himself, citing fears of unfairness and lack of justice in his rulings.
Notably, the children of the late politician and farmer Jackson Kiprotich Kibor, involved in the multi-billion succession case (Jackson Kiprotich Kibor Suit E049/2023), are among those who have complained about the judge and called for his recusal. Another significant complaint involves the succession case No. 73/2021, concerning the estate of Samwel Kipketer Ngeny.
The lobby group has urged the Chief Justice to urgently intervene, ensuring that litigants and the public retain their trust in the judiciary, particularly regarding the fair dispensation of justice in succession matters.
