A section of leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement have threatened to initiate private prosecution proceedings against Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations John Onyango, accusing them of orchestrating harassment against their supporters.
Led by James Orengo and Babu Owino, the group alleged that state agencies are targeting opposition supporters through what they described as fabricated charges.
“You are not above the law,” Orengo said, directing his remarks at the two officials.
The leaders further accused security agencies of failing to address hooliganism effectively, instead turning their focus on perceived political opponents.
“You are a DCI officer, but your work is to hunt Kenyans,” Babu Owino said, adding that youth aligned to their movement were being unfairly targeted.
Speaking at the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, where they had sought an audience with senior officials, the leaders warned that they would pursue legal redress if the alleged harassment and intimidation continue.
They claimed there is a coordinated effort to silence dissenting voices and intimidate leaders opposed to the current administration.
Orengo also called on the National Police Service to uphold its constitutional mandate and operate independently in the execution of its duties.
