Be Close to Your Children, Kapseret-Simat MCA Moses Kebenei Tells Parents as Holidays Begin
The MCA further appealed to the community to embrace children and guide them with love and strong morals, stressing that early correction is key to shaping responsible adults.

Kapseret-Simat Ward MCA Moses Kebenei has challenged parents to be more present in the lives of their children during the long school holidays, warning that parental absence is exposing children to insecurity and moral decay.
Speaking during a community baraza in Simat-Kapseret on Thursday, Kebenei said the holiday period comes with many hidden dangers and parents must deliberately create time to bond with their children.
“Our kids are on holiday. And there are many issues. And I want to plead with my parents. Let us be close to our kids. Let us have a discussion with them. Let us talk together,” he said.
The MCA urged families to adopt a culture of praying together every evening and holding open conversations where children can freely share how their day was and what they are going through.
“Every evening let us pray together. Let us know what the kids are going through. Let them tell us how the day was. Be close to your kid. As a parent, be that parent who is available for your children,” he emphasized.
Kebenei also raised alarm over deteriorating security in Simat and Kapsere villages following a recent horrific incident in which a young girl was raped and killed. The incident has thrown the quiet village into shock and mourning.
“Security starts with you. We cannot say that security starts with the government. And let us be a brother’s keeper. If you hear from the Simat Kapsere side there is a girl who was raped and was killed,” he said.
He called on residents to stop shielding criminals who live among them and instead expose them to the authorities, cautioning that protecting evil characters today will make the community the next victim.
“So I am requesting, if we see those characters within our community, let us expose them. If you don’t expose those people tomorrow it will be you. So if you see an evil happening in a community or in a society, pick it out,” Kebenei warned.

“And I am asking the community, let us embrace our kids. Let us accept them and let us teach them the right morals. If you see something not right with a neighbor or a friend’s kid, correct that child before things get out of hand,” he added.
Residents who attended the baraza welcomed his message, admitting that busy farm schedules and work have made it difficult to spend quality time with their children.
The meeting comes at a time when chiefs and Nyumba Kumi elders have intensified patrols and public sensitization in the area after the murder incident. Police have also urged members of the public to volunteer information that will help arrest the suspects behind the heinous act.
Kebenei concluded by calling for unity, prayer and communal responsibility in protecting children during the holiday season.
