The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced its latest initiative to revolutionize tax collection processes through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

The taxman is leveraging AI technologies to detect fraud, streamline operations, and enhance compliance, aiming to improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax collection across the country.

By harnessing AI, KRA expects to better identify tax leakages and gain deeper insights into Kenya’s diverse revenue streams.

This new approach is expected to make tax collection not only more effective but also to significantly reduce inefficiencies that have long plagued the system.

In a statement, KRA noted, “AI will help identify tax leakages and provide deeper insights into revenue streams, making tax collection more efficient and accurate.”

The adoption of AI comes as part of KRA’s broader goal to simplify and enhance the transparency of Kenya’s tax processes.

As the tax authority embraces digital transformation, it is focused on improving the overall experience for taxpayers.

KRA officials emphasized the importance of using AI to personalize services, improve communication channels, and enhance taxpayer education.

These measures aim to make the tax process more user-friendly and reduce the anxiety often associated with tax filing and compliance.

“KRA is focused on making tax collection simpler and more transparent. By improving communication channels, offering personalized services, and enhancing taxpayer education, KRA aims to make the tax process more user-friendly and less intimidating for all Kenyans,” the agency said in its statement.

In addition to its efforts to modernize domestic tax systems, KRA is also focused on strengthening Kenya’s position in the global market.

During a recent summit, KRA highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to boost intra-African trade by reducing tariffs and trade barriers.

KRA has been actively working with other African nations to reduce trade barriers, streamline trade flows, and enhance cooperation.

This cross-border collaboration is expected to strengthen Kenya’s competitive edge, ensuring that the country remains a key player in both regional and global markets.
