In an interview with L’Équipe, Paul Pogba dropped a bombshell, stating he might return to Ligue 1: “We don’t know what tomorrow holds. Why not play in Ligue 1? I don’t have to say no.”
This once again got everyone talking about the next destination of the French midfielder as his career approaches a point of uncertainty.
From Le Havre, where he took his first career steps, to Juventus and Manchester United, Pogba has gone through some turbulent years.
His inconsistent spell at Manchester United was then riddled with injuries that further sparked debates of public spats with the club’s hierarchy since he made that then-record transfer in 2016.
While he was signed when high expectations surrounded him, Pogba never quite managed to perform in a way that would merit such lofty expectations.
Recently, his career dealt him yet another blow as he received a provisional suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.
In fact, this has just made things even more complicated for him, and it indeed stirred speculation about his future.
Many people started to wonder whether the World Cup-winning midfielder will remain in the Premier League or move to foreign lands in search of other opportunities.
During the conversation, Pogba brought into focus that every door should be kept open in football, which is an ever-changing scenario.
“There’s always the possibility of starting fresh, particularly in a league like Ligue 1, which has produced so many great talents and is only getting bigger,” Pogba said, his words hinting that his playing career might be available for option in his home country.
Ligue 1 has increasingly welcomed top talent across the globe in recent years, with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.
A move to the top division in France might just provide the perfect platform for Pogba to relaunch his career in a comfortable manner.
On the other hand, Ligue 1 would attract much-needed star power with Pogba and raise its profile on the global stage.
For Pogba, remaining open to a move to Ligue 1 during this ordeal in his career allows him to shift gears and set off on that new start he seeks to revisit his legacy.
Though yet to materialize, the switch might be made, with his every move tracked by both fans and analysts alike.
His decisions in the coming months could shape not only his future but also the wider football landscape.
One thing is for sure: Paul Pogba stays right at the center as far as following key figures in the football arena is concerned.
