Kibwezi MP Mwengi Mutuse has expressed his gratitude to his colleagues in the National Assembly and Senate for supporting his motion to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement following the successful impeachment, Mutuse emphasized that the decision marks a significant turning point in Kenya’s political landscape.
Mutuse, who spearheaded the impeachment proceedings, thanked the members of both legislative houses for their confidence in the charges he brought against Gachagua.
“Kenya will never be the same again,” Mutuse declared, noting that the country’s leadership will now be held to a higher standard of accountability.
He stressed the need for all leaders to live up to the letter and spirit of the Constitution, highlighting the importance of adhering to the rule of law.
The Kibwezi legislator’s call for greater responsibility among leaders is seen as a direct critique of the former Deputy President, whose tenure was marked by controversies surrounding corruption and governance issues.
Mutuse’s impeachment motion, which was overwhelmingly supported by both the National Assembly and the Senate, argued that Gachagua had violated the Constitution and engaged in conduct that was unbecoming of his high office.
With Gachagua now ousted from office, Mutuse believes that this action will serve as a warning to other leaders who may be tempted to abuse their positions of power.
“Those of us in leadership must henceforth live to the letter and spirit of our Constitution and laws,” Mutuse reiterated in his address to the press.
The impeachment has triggered widespread debate across the country, with Kenyans from all walks of life weighing in on the unprecedented removal of a sitting Deputy President.
While some have hailed it as a victory for democracy and justice, others view it as a politically motivated move.
This is not the first time that Gachagua has faced political scrutiny. Throughout his time in office, he has been a polarizing figure, with both staunch supporters and vocal critics.
However, his impeachment now raises questions about the future of the country’s executive leadership and its implications for the stability of the current administration.
As the dust settles on this historic decision, attention will now shift to the succession process and how the country’s political players will navigate the evolving landscape.
For Mwengi Mutuse, however, the message is clear: Kenya’s leaders must uphold their constitutional duties, or risk facing the same fate as the impeached former Deputy President.
