Kenya Welcomes Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire
The ceasefire agreement comes after weeks of heightened tensions and violence that threatened to escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Kenya has welcomed the recently brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, a significant step toward restoring normalcy between Israel and Lebanon.
Speaking on the development, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi expressed optimism that the ceasefire would foster stability and promote peace and prosperity across the volatile Middle East region.
“The ceasefire paves the way for restoring normalcy between the two neighbouring countries of Israel and Lebanon, fostering stability and promoting peace and prosperity across the Middle East,” Mudavadi said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The ceasefire agreement comes after weeks of heightened tensions and violence that threatened to escalate into a broader regional conflict.
Kenya’s call for peace aligns with its longstanding policy of advocating for dialogue and conflict resolution.
Mudavadi also highlighted Kenya’s efforts to safeguard its citizens in the region, which has been severely impacted by the hostilities.
Since the onset of the conflict, Kenya has successfully evacuated over 300 of its citizens from the affected areas. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported among Kenyan nationals.
The government reassured that evacuation efforts are ongoing to ensure the safety of all Kenyans still in the region.
“We commend the successful evacuation of our citizens and remain committed to ensuring their safety. This remains a priority as the situation evolves,” said Mudavadi.
Kenya’s intervention underscores its commitment to protecting its diaspora community and its active role in global peace advocacy.
The country continues to urge leaders in the Middle East to prioritise dialogue as a means to resolve conflicts and to work towards long-term peace.
“We call upon leaders across the Middle East to embrace dialogue and prioritise peace and stability in the region,” Mudavadi added.
The ceasefire has sparked hope for a return to normalcy in Israel and Lebanon, where thousands of civilians have been displaced by the violence.
Regional and international leaders have called for continued diplomatic efforts to address the underlying issues fueling instability.
Kenya’s stance reinforces its position as a voice of peace on the global stage, with Mudavadi emphasizing that sustainable peace requires collective effort from all stakeholders.
As the Middle East takes steps toward calm, Kenya remains vigilant in its support for initiatives that advance peace, stability, and human welfare in the region.
