Kenya actively participated in the 74th East, Central, and Southern Africa (ECSA) Health Ministers Conference, where regional leaders convened to deliberate on pressing health challenges.

The conference, held in Lilongwe, focused on advancing universal health coverage, strengthening preparedness for health emergencies, addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and promoting local pharmaceutical manufacturing.

During the discussions, Kenya reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing healthcare systems by collaborating with ECSA member states to implement policies that improve service delivery.

The country emphasized the need for robust health infrastructure and strategic partnerships to mitigate health crises, including future pandemics.

A key highlight of the conference was the collective push for universal health coverage, a priority Kenya has been advancing through initiatives such as the recently introduced primary healthcare networks.

The discussions also underscored the growing threat of NCDs, with Kenya advocating for regional efforts to enhance awareness, screening, and management of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.

Additionally, Kenya supported the drive to boost local pharmaceutical manufacturing, aiming to reduce reliance on imported medicines and enhance the availability of essential drugs within the region. This aligns with Kenya’s broader vision of strengthening the health sector through innovation and local capacity-building.

Through its active engagement at the ECSA Health Ministers Conference, Kenya continues to position itself as a key player in regional health policy formulation.

By working closely with neighboring countries, Kenya seeks to create a more resilient healthcare system capable of addressing both current and emerging health challenges.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from all participating nations to advance collaborative efforts in improving public health and achieving sustainable healthcare solutions across the region.
