Kenya and Türkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, with a focus on enhancing trade, defense, agriculture, and peacebuilding efforts across East Africa.
The two nations, long-standing partners in promoting regional stability, are set to revive key agreements and expand cooperation in various sectors.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi met with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Subutay Yuksel, at the Railways office in Nairobi to discuss strategies for strengthening diplomatic ties.
The talks highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing security challenges in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, and South Sudan, where both nations have played active roles in peacekeeping and conflict resolution.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the agreement to revive the Kenya-Türkiye Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC), last signed in 2016.
The JCC will serve as a platform to fast-track critical agreements, including the establishment of a free trade area and the avoidance of double taxation.
These measures are expected to boost economic ties and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Ambassador Yuksel expressed Türkiye’s eagerness to increase investments in Kenya, particularly in infrastructure and agriculture.
Additionally, plans are underway to expand air connectivity between the two nations, with Türkiye aiming to increase flights between Ankara and Nairobi and resume routes to Mombasa, a move expected to boost tourism and trade.
In a gesture underscoring the growing partnership, Ambassador Yuksel extended an invitation to President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi to attend the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF2025), scheduled for April 11–12, 2025.
The forum, themed “Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World,” will bring together global leaders to discuss pressing issues related to peacebuilding and international cooperation.
Mudavadi emphasized the importance of the Kenya-Türkiye partnership, stating, “Our collaboration is not only vital for our two nations but also for the stability and prosperity of the wider East African region.”
As Kenya and Türkiye move to reinvigorate their partnership, the renewed focus on trade, security, and diplomacy signals a promising future for bilateral relations and regional development.
