Two men have been arrested by detectives in Kasarani for allegedly masquerading as female masseuses and luring unsuspecting clients into a robbery scheme that involved intimidation and theft.
The suspects, identified as Alex Mugo Wachira and Simon Chomba Mbogo, are accused of operating a deceptive online massage service, where they posed as attractive women offering “professional massage services.” However, instead of a therapeutic session, their clients were met with threats and robbery.
According to authorities, the scheme came to light after a victim reported his harrowing experience to Kasarani Police Station.
He had responded to an online advertisement that featured two seemingly beautiful women promoting luxurious massage therapy services.
The client was directed to a residence along Lumumba Drive in Kasarani, where the supposed massage session was to take place.
Upon arrival and shortly after the session began, the situation took a sinister turn. The suspects brandished knives, revealing their true identities. The victim was coerced into transferring Ksh 280,000 to a mobile number controlled by the suspects and was stripped of other valuables before being thrown out of the house.
“This was a well-calculated con disguised as a wellness service,” a police official stated. “The suspects used fake profiles to exploit social media platforms and prey on unsuspecting individuals seeking massage therapy.”
Following the report, police launched investigations using digital forensic tools. The breakthrough came when the suspects were tracked down and arrested in the Kamiti prison area, where they were reportedly enjoying themselves, likely spending proceeds from the fraudulent activity.
The duo is currently being held at Kasarani Police Station as detectives finalize the case. They are expected to be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete.
Police have issued a warning to the public to be cautious when engaging with online services, especially those involving personal visits. They also urged anyone else who may have fallen victim to the suspects’ scheme to come forward and file a report.
Authorities praised the swift action of the Kasarani detectives and emphasized the importance of public vigilance in combating cyber-enabled crime.
