Kenya is making remarkable strides in its preparations to host the 2025 African Nations Championships (CHAN), set to kick off in February 2025. The government is sparing no effort to ensure that the country’s sports infrastructure meets international standards for the prestigious tournament.

Renovation works are underway at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium, two of Nairobi’s largest and most iconic sports venues.

These facilities are being upgraded to meet the requirements set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Additionally, training venues, including the Ulinzi Sports Complex and Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, as well as Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, are undergoing significant improvements to be ready well ahead of the tournament.

President William Ruto expressed his gratitude to CAF for entrusting Kenya with the responsibility of hosting CHAN 2025.

Speaking after meeting CAF President Patrice Motsepe at State House in Nairobi, Ruto said the organization’s confidence is a testament to Kenya’s growing stature in African football.

“We are honored by this opportunity to host CHAN 2025. Kenya is fully committed to ensuring the success of the tournament and leaving a legacy of world-class sports facilities,” President Ruto stated.

The meeting brought together high-profile officials, including CAF Fourth Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya and Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba, who accompanied Motsepe.

Representing Kenya were Federation of Kenya Football (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed, FKF Vice-President McDonald Mariga, and CHAN/AFCON Head of Secretariat Mike Rabar.

Kenya’s selection as the host for CHAN 2025 marks a significant milestone for the nation’s football scene, following years of missed opportunities to host major tournaments due to infrastructure shortcomings.

This time, the government and stakeholders are keen on getting it right.

The upgrades not only highlight Kenya’s ambition to position itself as a sports hub in Africa but also underscore the importance of football in uniting and inspiring the nation.

With the ongoing preparations and a dedicated team steering the project, fans across the continent can expect a vibrant and unforgettable championship.

As the countdown to CHAN 2025 begins, the focus now shifts to ensuring that every aspect of the tournament, from logistics to the fan experience, is flawless.

The event promises to leave an enduring legacy for Kenyan football and inspire future generations.
