Karim Benzema has voted for Eduardo Camavinga as the best French player of the 2023/2024 season, overlooking the more widely considered favorite, Kylian Mbappé.

Benzema’s selection, revealed as part of a recent voting poll for France’s top footballer, has sparked debate among fans and analysts alike.

Benzema, the former Real Madrid striker and current star at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, chose Camavinga as his top pick for the prestigious honor.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who has gained recognition for his explosive performances both for Real Madrid and the French national team, has been lauded for his maturity, vision, and defensive contributions.

Camavinga’s ability to adapt to multiple midfield roles and his impact during key moments of the season likely influenced Benzema’s decision.

For his second choice, Benzema opted for Lyon forward Rayan Cherki, known for his dazzling skills and attacking prowess, while his third pick was Paris Saint-Germain’s rising star, Warren Zaïre-Emery.

Zaïre-Emery, another young talent emerging from PSG’s youth ranks, has impressed with his poise and composure in midfield, despite his relatively young age.

Interestingly, Benzema did not cast a vote for Kylian Mbappé, the star player for PSG and the French national team.

Mbappé, who has been in remarkable form, scoring goals and providing assists in both domestic and international competitions, was widely expected to be Benzema’s top pick.

The absence of Mbappé’s name in Benzema’s rankings has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the reasons behind the omission.

It remains unclear why Benzema, who has played alongside Mbappé in the French national team, chose not to vote for him.

The decision has sparked speculation, with some suggesting that it could be due to personal or professional reasons, while others speculate it could simply reflect Benzema’s admiration for the other players’ performances in the given season.

While Benzema’s choices may have surprised many, they also reflect the growing strength and depth of French football, with a new generation of players like Camavinga, Cherki, and Zaïre-Emery making their mark on the national and international stage.

With the 2023/2024 season still ongoing, all eyes will be on these players as they continue to evolve and compete for recognition in one of the most competitive footballing nations in the world.
