Dozens of residents from Langas have received nutrition aid from the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Eldoret as part of the organization’s holiday season outreach.
The initiative is aimed at supporting local mothers who have actively contributed to the success of past agricultural exhibitions in the region.
While it is a tradition for the Ministry of Agriculture to distribute food aid towards the end of each year, Susan Kosgey, the chairperson of the ASK Eldoret branch, emphasized that this year’s food distribution has a special significance.
The aid is being provided as a token of appreciation to the mothers for their consistent efforts in preparing the agricultural exhibition halls for the annual shows.
Kosgey noted that the dedication of these residents has been invaluable in ensuring the smooth running of past exhibitions.
“We wanted to express our gratitude for the hard work and commitment of the Langas mothers who have worked tirelessly to clean and prepare the exhibition halls. This nutrition support is just a small way for us to give back to them,” Kosgey said during the distribution event.
The residents, who received the aid with gratitude, expressed their thanks and highlighted the importance of such initiatives. Many of them emphasized that the food assistance during this holiday season is a symbol of hope and goodwill.
In their remarks, they called on the ASK and other organizations to provide job opportunities for local people, particularly in next year’s agricultural exhibitions.
“It is our tradition to give back during this time of year, and we hope that these organizations will also offer us employment in the upcoming exhibition,” one of the mothers said.
Moses Otieno, an officer from Kapseret Ward, also spoke during the event and urged more aid organizations to prioritize the residents of Langas and other marginalized parts of Eldoret, especially those living in slums.
“Langas, along with many other areas in Eldoret, is home to many who are struggling to make ends meet. It’s crucial that aid organizations provide more targeted support, especially for the slum areas,” Otieno remarked.
The annual agricultural exhibition in Eldoret, which draws thousands of visitors and participants, is set to take place in April next year.
For the Langas residents, this event represents an opportunity to secure employment, as many are hopeful of finding work in various roles related to the exhibition.
