There is an uproar in Kapseret after the bloody attack on one Kennedy Maswai, a young man who was allegedly attacked by thugs allied to area MP Oscar Sudi. The incident, which occurred in the St. George’s area of Kapseret, has been condemned by human rights activists, political leaders, and residents who are now demanding speedy justice.

The attack on Maswai reportedly targeted his political opinions. Maswai’s injuries during the assault were such that both his eyes had swollen shut. He was immediately hospitalized for surgery and is now recuperating. The savagery of the attack has brought it under national scrutiny, with many terming it an alarming act of political intimidation.

Kapseret Police Commander Zephania Kamureng said that they are actively investigating the matter. “The complainant reported the case to our station, and investigations are underway to ensure those involved are brought to book,” Kamureng said. He pledged that the police would not protect anyone implicated in the crime. “No one is above the law, and accountability will be ensured,” he said. Police officers later visited Maswai at the hospital to take his statement and check his condition.
Human rights activist Kimutai Kirui strongly condemned the attack, demanding justice for the victim. “We expect nothing but justice,” Kirui said. “The young man was brutally beaten and left for dead by goons allegedly linked to the area MP. He underwent surgery, and by God’s grace, he survived. This was a miracle, and we must ensure justice is done — not only for Kennedy but for every Kenyan who has suffered political violence.” Kirui also thanked the media and local residents for their support and urged authorities to conduct a fair and transparent investigation.

Kapseret MP aspirant John Chumba also weighed in on the matter, terming the attack a violation of democratic rights. “We believe our citizen was attacked for political reasons,” Chumba stated. “We live in a democratic nation where freedom of expression is guaranteed under Article 33 of the Constitution. No Kenyan should be assaulted or intimidated for expressing their opinion.” He called for calm, urging residents to trust in the justice system. “We want a united Kapseret that believes in democracy and the rule of law. No threat or intimidation should be tolerated,” he added. As Maswai continues to recover, the incident has sparked renewed calls to end politically motivated violence in the region. Leaders and residents alike have demanded that the perpetrators be arrested and prosecuted, warning that such acts undermine peace, democracy, and human rights in Kenya.
