The Ministry of Health is integrating digital health records at Port Reitz Sub-County Hospital’s Maternity Services. Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, accompanied by Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, visited the facility today to assess the ongoing integration of the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration for beneficiaries.

During her visit, Dr. Barasa highlighted the significance of digitizing health records, stressing that the adoption of technology is critical to ensuring efficient and high-quality care, particularly for expectant mothers.

The SHA registration process is designed to streamline healthcare services by centralizing patient data, making it easier to track medical histories and provide timely interventions.

“The integration of SHA registration into our healthcare system is a crucial step toward improving the accessibility and efficiency of services. This process will help ensure that every expectant mother receives the best possible care, and that their health records are easily accessible to medical staff,” said Dr. Barasa.

The SHA registration is a pivotal component of the government’s broader plan to modernize Kenya’s healthcare system. It aims to make healthcare services more efficient by allowing for better coordination between hospitals, clinics, and health professionals.

The move also seeks to ensure that all Kenyans, especially the most vulnerable, have access to quality healthcare regardless of their location.

Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, who was also present during the visit, commended the initiative, noting that digitizing health services would improve patient outcomes by reducing delays in treatment and eliminating the challenges associated with paper-based records.

“The benefits of this digital health system will be felt not only here in Mombasa but across the entire country. It will improve the overall healthcare experience for both patients and healthcare providers,” said Governor Nassir.

Dr. Barasa also took the opportunity to recognize the hardworking staff at Port Reitz Sub-County Hospital, commending them for their commitment to providing exceptional care.

She encouraged the medical team to continue delivering quality services to all patients, ensuring that no one is left behind in receiving essential healthcare.

The integration of SHA registration at Port Reitz Sub-County Hospital marks an important milestone in Kenya’s journey toward a more modern and efficient healthcare system, with the potential to significantly improve maternal and overall healthcare outcomes across the country.
