Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim received a consignment of medical supplies valued at Ksh 43 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA). These drugs, which were purchased in July, are set to be distributed to 138 healthcare facilities across Uasin Gishu County.

While flagging off the consignment at the County Headquarters, Governor Bii acknowledged the delays in distribution caused by KEMSA’s slow disbursement process. “Initially, we had placed an order for drugs worth Ksh 67 million, but today we have received Ksh 43 million worth of supplies,” he explained.

The Governor expressed concerns over the challenges posed by KEMSA’s delays, noting that this is an issue faced by governors across the country. “Our people deserve the best healthcare services, yet we continue to face delays from KEMSA. This monopoly limits our ability to deliver, and we should not be forced to rely solely on one entity for such an essential need,” he emphasized.

Following the flag-off, Governor Bii visited Kapteldon Hospital in Kapseret to oversee the distribution of the medical supplies. He expressed hope that the delivery would provide much-needed relief to residents, many of whom have been forced to purchase their own medication in recent months due to supply shortages.

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare access across the county despite the challenges posed by supply chain delays.
