Government Assures Public After Companies Registry Data Breach

The Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy has confirmed that the recent data breach involving the unauthorized disclosure of company registry information has been comprehensively addressed and conclusively resolved.
In a public notice issued on February 6, 2025, Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo reassured the public that the breach, which affected the Business Registration Service (BRS) systems, had been successfully mitigated.
The Ministry stated that all unauthorized disclosures of information had been fully removed and permanently erased.

The Ministry emphasized that all BRS databases and systems had been secured, with enhanced preventive measures implemented to prevent future breaches.

The incident had raised concerns over data security and privacy protection in Kenya, especially with increasing reliance on digital platforms for business registration and transactions.
The government, however, reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding personal and corporate data from cyber threats.
