GBV victims in Kwale find hope in New Gender Bill

Women and girls in kwale county are set to benefit with development projects from Kwale women peace network project funded by crown trust organization.

The project focuses on three pillars of gender based violence, peace and security and climate change that has highly affected women and girls.

speaking during the  official launch of  Kwale women peace network  project  at Kombani social hall , Mwanakombo Kibwana Jarumani The  chairlady  Peace and security  Kwale county  and the founder of Kwale women peace network project, said the phase of the project is sensitizing  community  on how to build resilience on climate change as well as on how to end  GBV .

“We want the community to understand different dimensions of dealing with climate change as well as understanding the process of prevailing justice  to GBV victims  and also doing peace campaigns at the grassroot levels ,”Said Ms Jarumani .

Ms Jarumani affirmed to work with different stakeholders for perfection of the project.

“ We are involving the National and County governments ,civil society organizations and the community to push for development ,we are ready to work with any partner of good will in this project that will last for 5 years  ,”Posed Ms Jarumani  .

On her side National government social and gender officer Kwale county  Nelly Amoite  confirmed her office to have joined hands with  different stakeholders  to ensure the gender bill  in kwale county assembly sees light .

“ We want to have a round-table meeting with the county assembly of Kwale to sensitize  them what is in the  bill  and have them  add or remove what fits the bill  and   pass it as a  county by  law , the bill will  be very helpful  especially in ensuring victims of gender based violence get justice  saying continuous delay affect victims ,” Emphasized Ms Amoite  .

Ms Amoite called upon the community to amplify their voices and report gender based violence cases .

“community must stop kangroo courts ,GBV cases must be reported ,we will be having campaigns at the grassroots leves to sensitize locals on how to report these cases on time  and also make them understand about the gender bill that is on process  in the kwale county assembly ,” Said Ms .Amoite .

At the sametime the officer called upon women to reach her office ,the county women representative ,and members of the national assembly to ask for development projects to boost their livelihood .
