Family unit under threat;Social Department

The Ministry of labour, social security and protection in conjunction with SOS children’s villages held a sensitization program to discuss issues of family strengthening with a focus on how to protect the family and ways to curb the various challenges facing our homes.

 

The meeting that attracted various stakeholders from the social department was held at the Noble hotel Uasin Gishu County.

 

“Today we are here to give the stakeholders what the department does, the divisions in the department but specifically we were dealing with family promotion and strengthening. We want to strengthen Uasin Gishu families starting today.” Said Judith Baraza, Uasin Gishu deputy County director social development.

 

With a family being the basic unit of life, there are various issues affecting the different families in the country, ranging from gender based violence, matters of defilement, rape and general violence affecting our communities and societies, the meeting aimed at sensitization and ways to curb the different challenges affecting families.

 

“We are particularly focused on how to protect the family, matters on gender based violence, defilement, rape continue to threaten he family unit.” Noted Charles Laboso the  deputy county commissioner Ainabkoi Sub- County  Uasin Gishu.

 

Emphasis  have been  placed on concerted efforts on all various stakeholders in our society to ensure the rule of law prevails.

“We want to ensure the rule of law is implemented  in order to protect all members of the society especially the vulnerable members of society such as , women, children, persons with living disability, the elderly. The first line of protection for these groups is the rule of law. We are asking our law enforcement agencies to make sure there are no compromises when fighting gender based violence, rape cases and even defilement cases, The law must be upheld,”Added Charles Laboso.

 

A rallying call has been issued to all members of the society from the clergy to the political leadership to embrace this talk so as to ensure a harmonious society.

 

“We want to partner with other departments as a national government in making sure this conversation goes all the way down to the grass roots. We want to partner with the clergy, local leadership, national leadership and everybody else in addressing these pressing issues that threaten the  very basic unit  of  a society.”Remarked Laboso.
