Eldoret:Angry parents storm Governor Bii’s meeting,Dg forced to go through the fence!

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and his deputy Eng John Barorot were on Monday forced to scamper for their safety after angry parents confronted them at the Kapseret County offices demanding for their monies which they paid to the county government of Uasin Gishu for the failed Canada and Finland education scholarship projects.
The Governor was forced to board a different vehicle out of the offices while his deputy was holed up at the said offices before he could finally be secured to safety through a “panya’ route afraid of facing the angry parents who have been demonstrating for the last few months demanding an audience from the county leadership, all in vain.
Brian Kimutai a Student who had to resign from his workplace after he was promised that the county government would secure him a place at Thompson Rivers University in Canada all in vain’
“I am depressed I can’t face my parents who sold land to support my education journey , we trusted the county government but the truth is we were conned”Said Brian.
Similar sentiments were shared by another student Benjamin Cheboson a victim of the scholarship program initiated in 2021 by the Then Governor and the current senator Jackson Mandago who has remained silent ever since .
One and half years later many of the parents who sold their properties to support their children in their quest for education abroad are languishing in poverty having deposited all the monies to a county government oversees account ,monies that have gone to the drains.
Esther Kemboi recounts how she sold her half acre piece of land to support her child’s dream to pursue further education abroad , however that dream remains a fallacy ,
“We were introduced to some white guys by the former governor Jackson Mandago, we have sold land and eight months down the line there is nothing to show for it , Our children have lost hope many of us (parents)are depressed,” She stated.
The aggrieved parents have demanded a full refund of their money threatening to disrupt the 8Th devolution conference slated for August Next month.
Neither the Governor nor his deputy who were hosting the Netherlands Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Maarten Brauwer, at the Kapseret office provided an audience to the parents who have vowed to go on with their demonstrations.
Kimutai Kirui of the Centre against Torture has challenged the county leadership to engage with the affected parents and provide a solution
“The County government cannot distance itself from this fiasco, the County attorney signed the MoU on behalf of the County Government,The Governor himself traveled abroad where he signed the MoU’s he therefore cannot show his back on the parents and children of Uasin Gishu who are demanding for Justice”Opined Kimutai
