Boda Boda Chairmen Across 11 Counties Receive Laptops to Boost Efficiency and Welfare

In a bid to digitalize their operations, improve efficiency, enhance safety, and boost the welfare of their members, boda boda chairmen from 11 counties have received laptop donations.

These counties include Kisumu, Migori, Homabay, Vihiga, Kisii, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Busia, Trans Nzoia, and Uasin Gishu.

The electronic gadgets were donated by Watu Credit.

According to the Deputy Vice Chairman of the National Boda Boda Association of Kenya (BAK), John Tirop, this transition from analogue to digital operations will significantly streamline their work across their respective regions.

He noted that with the donations, they will be able to establish a comprehensive database of their members across the whole country and the number of saccos they have too.

Tirop, who doubles up as the chairman of the operators in Nandi County emphasized the importance of registering all operators to help identify any criminals hiding within the sector.

“We will register all boda-boda operators in my county to easily identify anyone engaging in criminal activities,” he added during an event at the Kisumu County Boda Boda Association office.

At the same event, the Kisumu County boda-boda office also received office chairs and tables, further empowering the riders.

Jacob Ochieng, the Kisumu County Boda Boda Association chairman, noted that the laptops would be invaluable for record-keeping and other administrative tasks.

“These gadgets will help us in coordination and communication , data management, administration efficiency among others”, he said

Victor Getenya, Head of Sales and Marketing at Watu Credit, highlighted that they are collaborating with approximately 1,700 boda boda chairmen at the ward level nationwide.

“This particular drive has been inspired by the urge to support our members and we intend to ensure that every chairman at the county level has a laptop,” he said.

He added “This is a drive that has not been done by anyone before, and we are really pushing to make sure that we are represented this way in all the 47 Counties of Kenya”.

More donations and distributions are planned for Nairobi, Central, and Mombasa regions, aiming to cover different parts of the country.

The boda-boda sector plays a crucial role in Kenya, supporting over 1.2 million individuals by providing employment opportunities, transporting goods, and delivering essential services.

Additionally, the organization has been engaging operators across the country through financial literacy clinics, aiming to empower riders to achieve financial stability and adopt responsible financial practices.
