Bishop Dominic Kimengich of the Eldoret Catholic Diocese has called on the government to prioritize public education ahead of the livestock vaccination program set to roll out in January. Speaking during his Christmas message, the Bishop emphasized the need to address concerns raised by farmers and leaders about the initiative.

“Livestock is the backbone of many rural families’ livelihoods. The government must educate the public on the importance of vaccination and dispel any misinformation surrounding the program,” said Bishop Kimengich.

He urged the government to engage with communities to ensure the program’s success, noting that poorly implemented initiatives could lead to mistrust and resistance. “Proper awareness will not only protect animals but also build confidence among farmers who depend entirely on their livestock,” he added.

The Bishop also addressed the challenges facing Grade 9 learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), expressing concern over the lack of preparation in schools. “Our schools lack the infrastructure and resources needed for this transition. We must ask ourselves if we are truly ready to implement this curriculum in a way that benefits our children,” he said.

On matters of security, Bishop Kimengich made a heartfelt appeal for peace in the troubled Kerio Valley. “The ongoing conflicts are robbing our communities of the chance to thrive. We need dialogue, reconciliation, and a firm commitment from leaders to address the root causes of these disputes,” he stated.

As he extended warm Christmas greetings, Bishop Kimengich called on Kenyans to embrace love and unity during the festive season. “Let this be a time for reflection and collective action to solve the challenges we face as a nation. Together, we can create a better future for all,” he concluded.
