A Kenya Kwanza allied MP in North Rift region has told off proponents
of one man one shilling formula among them Deputy President Rigathi
Gachagua saying that plans were out to cause disunity and disharmony
among Kenyans.
Moiben MP Phylis Bartoo faulted those championing for the
implementation of the formula noting that their intention was to
derail President William Ruto’s implementation of flagship projects
across the country.
The law maker said those crusading the one man one shilling formula
were only out to ensure that one region benefits from the allocation
of nation resources at the expense of other communities in the country
as she termed the move ill-motivated.
“We are putting on notice those pushing for the implementation of one
man one shilling formula because their main aim is to ensure that
President Ruto fails in his efforts to deliver on his pre-election
manifesto to the citizens,” said Bartoo.
She implored upon leaders from Mount Kenya region to shelve their push
for the implementation of the formula and instead give the Head of
State ample time to deliver on what he promised the voters during the
2022 campaign period.
Ms Bartoo was speaking on Friday at Moiben sub county office where the
Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok
presided over the opening of the Civil Registration Centre in Uasin
Gishu County.
According to Bitok, the new office is set to serve more than 200,000
including residents of the neighbouring Marakwet West Sub County in
Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The unveiling of the office will be a big relief to the local
residents who used to travel for more than 30 kilometres to Eldoret
town and back in search of birth and death certificates.
Bitok who was accompanied by Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Eddison
Nyale assured Kenyans that it would take them only three days to get
passports after application by August.
He stated that the ongoing reforms at the Immigration department are
aimed at ensuring the travel documents are processed within three days
to address delays in the issuance of the documents witnessed in the
past.
“Work on modernization of state of the art machinery required for the
issuance of the passports is almost complete and Kenyans will no
longer experience frustration while seeking travel docents as
witnessed in the past,” assured Bitok.
The PS revealed that currently, Kenyans seeking passports to
facilitate their travel are forced to wait for two weeks to process
the documents.
The government, he said, was in the process of devolving issuance of
passports at sub county level in line with President Ruto’s bottom up
economic plans aimed at improving the lives of Kenyans.
