The Kenya union of post primary education teachers (KUPPET ) has called the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to order, following delayed disbursement of monies to hundreds of teachers who marked the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE.
According to Julius Korir, KUPPET vice chair, teachers who marked last year’s national examinations are yet to be paid and no explanations have been provided by the examination body.
KUPPET has warned failure to remit the money within seven days teachers will not engage in the marking of this years KCSE examinations.
“We cannot accept the oppression of teachers, KNEC Must convene a meeting with the KUPPET and provide details of when our teachers will be paid,” said Korir.
KUPPET has further warned against the ongoing mass demonstrations led by the Azimio coalition, saying the protests are a threat to the education system and the Country’s economy.
“We are asking President William Ruto to sit down with Azimio leader Raila Odinga in order to put to an end the ongoing civil disobedience that could negatively affect the economy” , Opined KUPPET Vice chair .
The teachers union has stated that they will be willing to help the two leaders into negotiations
