Stop diaper stigmatization against the sick and elderly!Celebrated Gospel artist urges Kenyans

A diaper user activist from the North Rift region has extended the campaign to sensitize the public against the stigma associated with diaper use among adults.
William Getumbe who is a celebrated gospel singer traversed Bungoma, Kakamega and Trans Nzoia to spread the gospel of diaper use among adults especially among those affected by chronic related illnesses.
Getumbe who had won a diaper caused a stir in various stopovers as scores of members of the public struggled to have a glimpse of the artist who wore a diaper.

“People who are affected by chronic illnesses should come out in open and stop suffering in silence for us to concur the stigma associated with the use of diapers especially among adults with various health ailments ,” said Getumbe
Getumbe implored the government to intervene by exempting import taxes on diapers so as to make it readily available to many affected people suffering from lifestyle diseases such as diabetes.
“Many people are unable to access the diaper, especially in rural and informal settlements due to the high cost of diapers, lack of it especially among the elderly and the sick leads to embarrassment and loss of dignity ,” Getumbe opined.
He regretted that some of the victims have been discriminated against not only at home but also at their workplaces something which needs the attention of both levels of government and also the community.
The Gospel Artist who has been conducting the “End Adult diaper stigma campaign ” for the last two years has implored upon companies and institutions to support his bid towards ending diaper stigma among adults in Kenya for a dignified life.
Around 12% of all women and 5% of men experience some form of urinary incontinence with conditions varying from mild,temporary and chronic according to Global Forum on Incontinence.
