President William Ruto has outlined a series of development projects in Kirinyaga County, saying the government is focused on transforming livelihoods through targeted investments across key sectors.

In a statement shared after meeting grassroots leaders at State House, Nairobi, the President emphasized that the initiatives are aimed at boosting incomes, creating jobs, and improving access to essential services.

“We are transforming our nation through projects and programmes that improve the lives of our citizens,” said Ruto.

The Head of State noted that farmers in the county are set to benefit from interventions in agriculture, particularly in coffee, tea, avocado, and dairy farming. He revealed that 13 milk coolers will be delivered next month to help preserve raw milk quality, reduce post-harvest losses, and increase farmers’ earnings.

“In Kirinyaga County, we are supporting farmers to earn more from coffee, tea, avocado and milk,” he said.

On housing, the President disclosed that the government has invested KSh15 billion to construct 4,000 affordable housing units, with projects in Gichugu and Kirinyaga already complete and ready for handover.

Ruto also highlighted investments in trade infrastructure, noting that KSh1.5 billion has been allocated for the construction of 12 modern markets. Three of these are already complete, while additional projects, including hostels to accommodate 4,000 university and college students, are ongoing.

“These projects are creating jobs for our youth,” he added.

In the health sector, the government is equipping county facilities with medical equipment worth KSh330 million. Plans are also underway to establish a research centre by the Kenya Medical Research Institute in Mwea, alongside the construction of a Level 4 hospital funded at KSh200 million.

Infrastructure development is also part of the broader agenda, with 19,000 households already connected to electricity and another 9,500 expected to benefit in the next financial year. Additionally, KSh6 billion has been set aside for road construction and completion across the county.

Ruto said the meeting with Kirinyaga leaders focused on reviewing progress and aligning development priorities to ensure effective implementation of the projects.
