KNEC to Start Paying 2025 National Examination Officials From August 6

Thousands of teachers and education professionals who participated in the administration of the 2025 national examinations are set to begin receiving their allowances from August 6 following the release of funds by the Ministry of Education.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) announced that payments to contracted examination personnel, including supervisors, invigilators, centre managers and other officials, will be made in phases to ensure a smooth disbursement process across the country.
The announcement brings relief to many teachers who have been waiting for several months to receive compensation for their work during last year’s national examination period. The delay in processing the allowances had raised concerns among education stakeholders, with teachers’ representatives and unions urging the government to expedite the release of funds.
According to KNEC, the Ministry of Education has now released the necessary funding, allowing the council to commence processing payments for all eligible examination officials. The council, however, cautioned beneficiaries that payments will not be made simultaneously because of the large number of officials involved and the administrative procedures required before the funds reach individual accounts.
KNEC appealed for patience from all contracted personnel, assuring them that the payment exercise will continue until every eligible official has received their allowance.

The commencement of payments is expected to ease anxiety among thousands of teachers who had been seeking clarity on when they would receive their allowances. For many, the payments will provide financial relief after months of waiting.
The development comes as KNEC continues preparations for the next national examination cycle. The council is expected to begin recruiting examination officials in the coming months as it gears up for the administration of this year’s examinations.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the release of funds, expressing hope that future payments will be processed more efficiently to avoid similar delays. They maintain that prompt payment of examination personnel is essential in motivating teachers and ensuring the continued smooth administration of national assessments across the country.
