Living Room Hospital Employee Wanted Over Alleged Defilement of Minor as Police Close In on Suspect

Uasin Gishu police have intensified the search for a hospital employee accused of defiling a minor at Living Room International Hospital, with detectives narrowing in on his whereabouts after his last known mobile phone signal was reportedly traced to the Kitale area in Trans Nzoia County.
Speaking to journalists at his office, Ainabkoi Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Charles Getende urged members of the public to provide any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest, warning that sexual offences involving minors are serious crimes.
“Sexual offences, and especially where minors are involved, are serious offences. The police, and especially the DCI, are narrowing down on the suspect identified as Kelvin to ensure that he faces justice,” Getende said.
The suspect, who is reportedly an employee of the hospital, is accused of sexually assaulting the minor barely two weeks ago while she was undergoing treatment at the facility.
The suspect reportedly fled after the alleged incident and remains at large as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intensify efforts to trace and arrest him.
Getende appealed to members of the public with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the police and assist investigators in securing his arrest.
The alleged incident occurred on July 21 within the hospital premises along the Eldoret–Kaptagat Road and was subsequently reported to the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
According to the victim’s family, the minor had been taken to the hospital by her parents for medical treatment and was requested to provide a stool sample. It was during a visit to the hospital washrooms that she allegedly encountered a male cleaner, who the family accuses of sexually assaulting her.
Police sources have confirmed that the suspect, who is reportedly a father, remains at large.
Family Says Child Traumatised
The girl’s family says the alleged incident has left the child deeply traumatised and unable to resume her normal school routine.
Speaking after reporting the matter to the authorities, the girl’s father said the family was devastated by what had allegedly happened to their daughter while receiving medical care.
“I am shocked that such an act took place at a hospital that was established on the principles of promoting dignified treatment for the sick and receives significant financial support from churches and Christian donors both locally and in the United States,” the father said.
He also questioned the hospital’s response to the incident, claiming that the management had not done enough to assure the family that justice would be pursued.
“The management has taken no meaningful initiative to ensure justice is served, and that goes against everything they claim to stand for. I am urging the police to immediately investigate this matter because we cannot be certain whether other patients, including children, may have suffered similar abuse while seeking treatment,” he added.
Hospital Declines to Comment
When contacted by the media, Living Room International Hospital Director Titus Boit declined to comment on the allegations, citing the ongoing police investigations.
“We are unable to comment because the matter is under investigation,” Boit said.
The hospital had not issued a public statement on the matter by the time of publication.
Police Intensify Investigations
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are pursuing the case and are expected to interview relevant hospital staff, examine available evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
The DCI is also working to establish the suspect’s current whereabouts, with investigators reportedly narrowing their search following information that his last known mobile phone signal was detected around the Kitale area in Trans Nzoia County.
Getende reiterated that the authorities were committed to ensuring that the suspect is apprehended and subjected to due process.
“Sexual offences, and especially where minors are involved, are serious offences. We are working closely with the DCI and narrowing down on the suspect to ensure that he faces justice,” Getende said.
Police have appealed to anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or provide the information to investigators.
No arrest has been made so far.
Hospital’s Faith-Based Background
The allegations have attracted public attention because of the profile of Living Room International Hospital, a faith-based Level 4 health facility located approximately 9.4 kilometres from Eldoret Central Business District along the Eldoret–Kaptagat Road.
The 91-bed facility is operated by Living Room Ministries International, a Christian-based organisation founded by Pastor David Tarus. The institution was established with support from local and international Christian partners and incorporates faith-based values into its healthcare services.
Living Room Ministries International is also described as a religious, charitable, non-profit corporation registered in the State of California and recognised as a 501(c)(3) organisation in the United States.
The organisation says it relies on financial, spiritual and volunteer support from churches and Christian organisations in Kenya and the United States.
In August 2023, the facility officially opened its expanded hospital complex during a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto, who was then serving as Deputy President. During the event, Ruto praised the collaboration between the church, non-governmental organisations and private partners in establishing the facility and pledged government support for its operations.
The latest allegations have raised questions about the safety of vulnerable patients within healthcare facilities, as investigators work to establish the facts surrounding the case.
The victim’s family says it remains determined to pursue justice, while police continue their search for the suspect.
