More than 100 Muslim women on Thursday benefited from a food donation distributed to vulnerable families in Eldoret during the holy month of Ramadan.

The relief support was provided by Absa Bank Kenya through the Absa Kenya Foundation, targeting families facing economic hardship as they observe the sacred fasting period.

The donations were officially received on behalf of the beneficiaries by Sheikh Abubakar Bini, a Muslim cleric in Uasin Gishu County. He noted that the support has become a consistent lifeline for vulnerable families, revealing that this marks the fourth consecutive year the community has received Ramadan food donations from the bank.

Sheikh Bini said many families are currently grappling with economic hardships worsened by climate-related challenges that have affected livelihoods across the country.

“Many Kenyans are facing difficult situations due to challenges such as prolonged drought in some parts of the country and floods in others that have caused loss of lives and destruction of property,” said Sheikh Bini. “Government efforts can be strengthened by support from private sector players and non-governmental institutions such as Absa Bank by helping families who are in dire need of assistance.”

He noted that the food assistance would help ease the burden on vulnerable households and enable families to observe Ramadan with dignity.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Julius Songok, the Rift Valley Regional Manager at Absa Bank Kenya, said the initiative forms part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility program aimed at uplifting communities through the Absa Kenya Foundation.

“As Absa, we remain committed to supporting communities where we operate, especially during significant moments such as Ramadan. Through the Absa Kenya Foundation, we continue to extend assistance to vulnerable groups across the country,” Songok said.

He added that Absa Bank Kenya has already distributed similar food donations to Muslim communities in several towns across the North Rift region including Nakuru, Narok, West Pokot County and Kabarnet, with the program expected to continue in other areas as part of the bank’s outreach during the holy month of Ramadan.
