Diani police arrested three individuals after they discovered an illegal cannabis farm in Mwabungo Village. Two German nationals and a Kenyan female make up the list of suspects.
The arrest followed a joint operation by security agents after intelligence reports reached the police. Striking, officers of the Diani Officer Commanding Station (OCS) attacked a building located in the Romika area. Inside the building, they found a huge cannabis plantation hidden in the homestead.
Those arrested were Wegener Geb Sikora, 66, Heck Klaus Edmund, 69, and Anastasia Wangare, 27, who is a Kenyan national. The two suspects, who were in the country on tourist passes, are suspected by the authorities to have been using their residence for criminal purposes.
The trio were arrested on the spot. They were then moved to the Coast Region Anti-Narcotics Unit to be questioned. The detectives are currently carrying out investigations on the level of their operations and whether other people might be involved. Police say charges will be preferred once investigations are complete.
Crime scene investigators were dispatched to the homestead in order to collect evidence. The homestead had been reportedly transformed into a grow house with everything required for it. In the home, there were structures and systems to be used for growing cannabis on a mass level. They had concealed rooms to prevent being discovered.
Authorities said the arrest was part of an effort aimed at curbing drug trafficking and cultivation along the coast. Security forces have been conducting routine crackdowns as part of a larger drive to stem the spread of narcotics.
They have also appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious incidents in their areas. They reinforced that drug trafficking poses a serious threat to youngsters and undermines security in the area.
The three suspects are being held in police custody as investigations continue. Their case will also serve to explain how foreigners with tourist visas are committing crimes related to drugs. The authorities have warned that any person found guilty of such crimes will be dealt with firmly according to the law.
