Eight suspects accused of attacking Mawego Police Station in Rachuonyo North on July 3, 2025, were arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts on terrorism and criminal charges.

Kennedy Oluoch Oluoch, Nicholas Otieno, Tofiq Owiti Mohamed, Michael Omondi Opiyo, David Bill Clinton Otieno, Robert Ouko Abala, Samuel Ouma Odhiambo, and Erick Obunga Osumba were initially held under custodial orders issued by the Oyugis Law Court.

They were re-arrested July 14 and transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Nairobi.

The suspects were charged with committing a terrorist act under Section 4(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, arson under Section 332 of the Penal Code, and malicious damage to property under Section 339.

All pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors opposed bond, prompting objections from the defense. Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Koech scheduled a bond ruling for July 22. The suspects remain in custody at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
