Senate to hold special session monday on isiolo governor’s impeachment

The Senate will convene a special session Monday to hear impeachment charges against Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, following a formal notice from the Isiolo County Assembly dated June 26.

The Senate Speaker’s office confirmed receipt of the notice Friday. The communication outlines the County Assembly’s resolution to remove Hassan from office through impeachment proceedings.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi subsequently issued a Gazette Notice dated June 27, calling senators to a special sitting set for 10 a.m. in the Senate Chamber.

In addition to the impeachment motion, lawmakers will also debate the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025, as well as the final version of the proposed legislation.
