The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced the recruitment drive for assessors in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical examinations.

The council is calling on secondary school teachers and college tutors to apply for these key roles in eight specialized subjects.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, June 10, KNEC revealed that the recruitment process will run from June 10 to July 30, 2025.

“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes to recruit secondary school teachers and college tutors as assessors for KCSE oral and practical papers between 10th June and 30th July 2025,” the notice stated.

Subjects Open for Assessment Roles

Applicants can apply to assess the following subjects:

  • Power Mechanics
  • Electricity
  • Aviation Technology
  • French Oral
  • German Oral
  • Arabic Oral
  • Kenyan Sign Language – Signing Practical
  • Music Practical

How to Apply

To begin the application process, candidates must register or log into their Contracted Professionals Portal (CP2). For those who have forgotten their passwords, KNEC advises using the Reset Password function by entering their mobile number in the format 2547XXXXXXX.

New users must create a CP2 account and follow all instructions to receive login credentials. After logging in, applicants must complete their profiles and select the ‘Apply for Assessors’ Vacancies’ option. Available subject vacancies will then appear for selection.

“Slots are limited and only qualified applicants who have presented all the required documents will be shortlisted,” KNEC emphasized.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet eight key requirements, including:

  1. Must teach the subject they’re applying for.
  2. Must be registered and employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or a recognized institution.
  3. Must hold at least a Diploma in Education or a related field.
  4. Aviation assessors must have a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.
  5. Must have a minimum of three years teaching experience.
  6. Should not be under disciplinary action or investigation.
  7. Must be recommended by their head of institution or employer.
  8. Must be 50 years old or younger.

Payment and Allowances

KCSE assessors typically earn between Ksh50 and Ksh70 per script, depending on the subject. Additionally, KNEC provides travel allowances based on the assessor’s assigned location.

This recruitment is a vital step in ensuring the integrity and smooth administration of the KCSE practical and oral exams.
