Government Warns Citizens Using Mobile Phones Bought on Credit

The Kenyan government, through the National Police Service (NPS), has strongly warned customers using phones bought on credit.

In a statement released on Friday morning, police noted that there has been an increase in cases where people are illegally modifying phones purchased on credit in order to bypass payments.

An action which however has extremely impacted negative impact the companies selling these gadgets, such as the MKopa company, resulting in huge and excessive losses of millions of money over the years.

The police have also urged Kenyans to be extremely cautious when purchasing mobile phones, especially from unknown or untrusted dealers, to avoid such problems.

“The National Police Service warns the public against buying suspiciously cheap mobile phones from dishonest traders,” NPS noted.

“We also urge Kenyans not to participate in fraudulent schemes such as flashing phones acquired on credit to escape paying the required instalments.
Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or through our toll-free numbers: 999, 911, or 112.”NPS added.

However, this happened after two suspects were arrested by the police in collaboration with M Kopa Company in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu Count,y with accusations of hacking and ‘flashing’ M Kopa mobile phones

According to the police, the two individuals were captured and arrested after they received information from the public concerning their scandal.

Other technical electrical equipment, which is believed to have aided in this illegal activity, was recovered by the police at the scene.

The two suspects are now being held at Eldoret Police Station for further investigations

Citizens are urged to remain extremely cautious and avoid being lured into fraudulent activities.
