President Ruto Mourns Mwalimu Jackson Karua, Father of Martha Karua

President William Ruto has led tributes following the death of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua.
Mwalimu Jackson Karua passed away on the evening of Sunday, September 27, 2026, at his home in Kirinyaga County.
The veteran teacher’s death was announced by his daughter in an emotional statement shared on Sunday. Karua said she and her siblings had spent the better part of Sunday visiting their father at his rural home, unaware that it would be their final moments together.
In a condolence message released on Monday, September 28, President Ruto said he had received the news with deep sorrow.
“I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of Martha Karua. Mwalimu Karua devoted his life to teaching and service, touching generations through his work and leaving a lasting impact on many lives,” he wrote.
The Head of State mourned Mwalimu Karua as a dedicated educator who devoted his life to teaching and public service, saying the family should find strength and comfort during the difficult time. He joined Martha, the Karua family, relatives and friends in mourning and honouring a life of service.
Mwalimu Jackson Karua was credited with shaping generations through his work as a teacher in Kirinyaga. His daughter described him as her foundation and pillar who supported her through childhood and her career.
The announcement has prompted an outpouring of condolences from senior political figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders across the political divide.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
