She added that the airline’s uniform was enough to give her unlimited access to protected areas at the airport and that it was just bad luck that she was seized by police officers while roaming in the facility.

Elerlyne Amondi when she was arrainged in an Eldoretcourt accused of masquerading as an employee of Skyward limited Company at Eldoret International Airport.

A middle-aged woman accused of impersonating an employee of Skyward Limited Company will remain in police custody for four more days to allow the police to complete their investigation into her alleged crime.

In his ruling, Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba directed that Elerlyne Amondi be detained at the Central Police Station pending her court appearance on Monday for plea-taking.

“I find that the four days requested by the police to hold the suspect reasonable for them to expedite their investigations, and I therefore allow the application,” ruled Onkoba.

This decision followed a request from investigating officer Phanuel Kaaria, who is attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Eldoret. Kaaria informed the court that the investigations related to the suspect’s alleged impersonation, contrary to Section 382 of the Penal Code, were not yet complete.

The court heard that the suspect was arrested on June 29, 2024, by police officers from the DCI Eldoret International Airport at noon. The suspect was found fully dressed in a uniform resembling that of Skyward Airline Service employees. Upon a quick search, she was found with uniforms resembling those used in airplane engineering services.

“We arrested the suspect at Eldoret International Airport on June 29 for purporting to be an employee of Skyward Limited Company following a tip-off from workers of the said airline company,” said Kaaria.

The police recovered from the suspect uniforms belonging to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport School of Engineering, including a yellow and white dust coat. Kaaria stated that these items would be used as exhibits during the trial.

In her defense, the suspect shocked the court by stating that her curiosity to see how planes land and take off at the airport inspired her to use all means at her disposal to access the highly secure facility.

“I bought material cloth, which I took to a tailor in Eldoret town to make a uniform that resembled the Skyward airline employees, which I used to access the airport,” she said.

Amondi further claimed that she had no ill motive in her actions and that it was not her first time accessing the airport while donning the airline company’s uniform.

“I have been at the airport three consecutive times while donning the airline company’s uniform as I enjoyed watching how commercial and passenger planes land and take off on the runway,” Amondi said, to the shock of the court.

She added that the airline’s uniform was enough to give her unlimited access to protected areas at the airport and that it was just bad luck that she was seized by police officers while roaming in the facility.
