Liverpool fans have reason to celebrate as star defender Virgil van Dijk is set to extend his stay at Anfield, with a new contract keeping him at the club until 2027.
According to Fabrizio Romano, both the club and Van Dijk’s camp have approved all the documents and final details of the agreement, making the deal official pending announcement.
The Dutch international, widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football, has been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success in recent years.
His new two-year contract extension reflects the club’s continued faith in his leadership, defensive prowess, and experience.
Van Dijk’s current deal was due to expire in 2025, but the extension will now see him remain a Red for at least two more seasons beyond that. The official announcement is expected soon, with all contractual formalities already finalized.
Known for his commanding presence, aerial dominance, and calmness under pressure, Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton for a then-world record fee for a defender.
Since then, he has helped transform Liverpool’s backline and played a key role in their Champions League triumph in 2019 and Premier League title win in 2020.
The news comes at a crucial time for Liverpool, who are entering a new era under incoming manager Arne Slot.
Van Dijk, who has also captained both club and country, is expected to remain central to Liverpool’s plans as they transition into this new chapter.
Fans have welcomed the confirmation, seeing it as a statement of intent from the club to retain their top talent and maintain stability in the dressing room.
The leadership and experience Van Dijk brings, both on and off the pitch, are seen as vital for the team’s ambitions in the coming seasons.
While the official club statement is still awaited, sources close to the negotiations have used the familiar phrase “here we go” to signal that everything is in place. The announcement is now just a matter of timing.
With his future now secured until 2027, Van Dijk looks set to continue as the heartbeat of Liverpool’s defence, aiming to add more silverware to an already glittering career at Anfield.
