Real Madrid’s star winger, Vinicius Jr., has reportedly turned down a staggering €1 billion proposal from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), according to La Ser.
The lucrative offer, which would have made the 24-year-old Brazilian the highest-paid footballer in history, included a five-year contract with an annual salary of approximately €200 million, plus bonuses, and a separate 10-year role as an ambassador for the 2034 World Cup.
Despite the financial temptation, Vinicius remains focused on his future with Real Madrid, where he is a cornerstone of the club’s ambitions.
The Saudi Pro League, backed by PIF, has aggressively pursued global superstars to elevate its profile, with players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar already in its ranks.
Vinicius, however, prioritizes competing at the highest level in Europe, where he has shone since joining Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2018. Last season, he scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists in 39 matches, helping Los Blancos secure La Liga and Champions League titles.
His performances have positioned him as a Ballon d’Or contender, further cementing his value to Real Madrid.
Vinicius’s decision reflects his loyalty to the Spanish giants, where his contract runs until 2027 with a €1 billion release clause.
Negotiations for a potential extension are ongoing, with both parties keen to strengthen their partnership.
Fans have celebrated his choice, viewing it as a commitment to sporting excellence over financial gain.
As Real Madrid prepares for crucial matches, including a La Liga clash against Alavés and a Champions League tie against Arsenal, Vinicius’s resolve bolsters the team’s prospects.
His rejection of the Saudi offer underscores his ambition to build a lasting legacy at one of football’s greatest clubs.
