Deputy British High Commissioner David Hebert has announced plans to collaborate with the Uasin Gishu County Government to provide funding for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Speaking at the Eldoret City Investors Forum, Hebert emphasized the strategic importance of supporting local entrepreneurs to drive economic growth and innovation.

Hebert highlighted Uasin Gishu’s global reputation, noting the region’s remarkable contribution to athletics.

“Uasin Gishu has consistently produced world-class athletes who have raised Kenya’s profile on the global stage. This region exemplifies endurance and teamwork, turning Eldoret into a beacon of success,” he said.

He also revealed that as part of the partnership, approximately 4,000 youth will gain access to digital spaces for SMEs without incurring any fees, creating an avenue for inclusive economic participation.

Meanwhile, the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) urged local entrepreneurs to leverage government programs designed to boost business opportunities.

Speaking at the same forum, CPA CS Alton Kogo, MSEA’s North Rift Regional Head, encouraged entrepreneurs to capitalize on networking opportunities provided by the event to build connections and learn from various stakeholders.

“MSMEs should take advantage of the Constituency Industrial Development Centers located in Kesses, Turbo, and Ainabkoi. These centers are equipped with common-user machines that can facilitate the establishment of sustainable business ventures,” Kogo said.

He also underscored the importance of formalizing businesses through registration with MSEA to unlock the benefits of economies of scale.

The forum also addressed waste management challenges in the county.

MSEA regional head called on investors on Garbage recycling and research of garbage production in Eldoret City.

“Garbage collection has become a significant issue in the county, and addressing it is a priority,” he stated.

The Eldoret City Investors Forum served as a vital platform for fostering collaboration between local and international partners, showcasing opportunities in entrepreneurship, and promoting sustainable development.

These initiatives aim to position Eldoret as a hub for innovation, investment, and environmental sustainability.

By aligning with strategic partners like the UK, Uasin Gishu County is set to empower its entrepreneurs and address critical development challenges, reinforcing its reputation as a region of excellence and opportunity.
